A two-day Fast Track ultrasound program designed for vets who are just getting started, with limited experience with diagnostic ultrasound.
This weekend is all about starting out with abdominal ultrasound and getting the basics right. By the end of this highly practical and hands-on Fast-track, you will walk away with the skills and confidence to start scanning patients in clinical practice.
Program
Over this weekend you will learn the ‘road-map’ to the abdominal scan. Areas covered will include ultrasonography of the normal abdominal organs, including the liver, spleen, gastrointestinal, reproductive and urinary tracts. The most useful ultrasonographic measurements needed in assessments and clinical diagnosis and some common pathological conditions will also be considered.
Delegates will also gain a practical understanding of the physics of ultrasound, ultrasound machine set up and how to choose an ultrasound machine for their own practice. Medical Plus provides technical support and advice on the day.
Both days include practical ‘hands-on’ scanning, accompanying notes and resources and the opportunity to liaise closely with the internal medicine and imaging specialists involved.
Please note: This Introductory weekend is all about providing you with the general examination techniques and the fundamentals of abdominal ultrasound. Ideally this course can lead into Next Steps in Ultrasound, which is the second weekend of our Small Animal Ultrasonography Fast-Track Course offerings. No prior experience and skills in scanning are required for this beginners Fast-Track.

I’ve really come back to practice with a much more structured approach to performing my own ultrasounds, and have already been testing myself and attempting more than I would have before. I also know how much practice is ahead of me to really become proficient, but feel much more empowered than I did prior to doing the course – even despite having so much prior experience with watching lots of ultrasounds! Thanks for a great course, Improve!
