About the ISVPS
ISVPS was set up in 2003 by a group of like-minded veterinarians with the principal objective to provide attainable, balanced qualifications for veterinary practitioners working in full-time practice.
The General Practitioner Certificates (GPCerts) and Nurses Certificates (NCerts) were designed to meet the needs of busy veterinary practitioners and nurses wanting to gain a postgraduate qualification without having to take excessive time out of their busy working lives.

- You can sit your exams remotely – no travelling required!
- Assessment and examination methods are continually reviewed to achieve the highest standards and remain clinically relevant
ISVPS Qualifications
Whether you’re a nurse, vet tech or vet, there’s an ISVPS qualification for you.
Let’s explore the different qualifications you can achieve by doing one of our programs…
General Practitioner Certificate (GP Cert)
This is a middle-tier qualification awarded to veterinary surgeons who successfully complete one of our ISVPS accredited program and complete the associated ISVPS assessments.
How do you achieve a GPCert? After you complete one of our accredited programs, you will be eligible to sit your ISVPS exams and achieve your GPCert. Only registered veterinary surgeons can apply to undertake a GPCert and it’s recommended you have a minimum of 1-2 years experience.
Nurse Certificate (NCert) & Vet Tech Certificate (VTCert)
These qualifications are for nurses and techs who want to further their knowledge in a specific discipline and advance their career with additional training.
How do you achieve a NCert/VTCert? The qualification is awarded to candidates who successfully complete one of our accredited programs and completed the additional ISVPS assessments. Only fully qualified nurses or techs can apply to undertake the NCert/VTCert qualifications.
Postgraduate Certificate (PgC)
This is a higher-level qualification than the GPCert. It is awarded in collaboration with ISVPS and Harper Adams University and is a recognised academic qualification demonstrating you have achieved a certain standard in that subject area.
How to you achieve a PgC? When you have completed one of our accredited programs and achieved your GPCert, there are additional fees and assessments required for the PgC. Please contact the ISVPS directly for further information about PgC requirements ([email protected])
Advanced Nurse & Vet Tech Certs (NAdvCert/VTAdvCert)
This is a more advanced qualification than the NCert/VTCert and is the ‘next-step’, with additional academic and peer recognition.
How do you achieve an Advanced Cert? It is strongly recommended that delegates enrolling in an advanced program have previously achieved an ISVPS NCert/VTCert in an appropriate discipline or have 5+ years’ experience in general practice as a veterinary nurse/technician. The qualification route involves completion of our accredited Advanced Nurse program and a series of ISVPS assessments.
